What is Harissa? 

"Harissa" one of the most widely used spicy condiments, comes from the town of Nabeul in Tunisia; In the 16th century, the Columbus world explorers brought back chillies, which they started cultivating in the region. Since then, the chillies expanded further in the world and the harissa paste came to life. Harissa comes from the word "harassa" which means "to chrush/smash", describing the way this spicy condiment is originally made; by crushing the chilis into paste. Different ingredients are used from region to region with chilies being the heart othe paste, combined with garlic, oil, and fragrant spices. Harissa has now become a staple in most North African and Levantine countries, as its complex spicy taste profile is the perfect companion to any type of dish and can easily transform it with a depth of flavour.
